ABOUT ME
Hey, there!
My name is Nico (she/her). I'm a Canadian freelance illustrator and writer that commonly works under the handle NicoHakoArt.
I love poutine, video games, high fantasy worlds, and autumn. My biggest writing inspiration is Patrick Rothfuss' Name of the Wind, Anne Aguirre's Strange Love, and Jean Rhys' Voyage in the Dark. I'm a major introvert, but I'm still friendly :)
ABOUT MY ART
I play with a lot of high contrast values in my pieces, I've also been experimenting with strong array of colors and textures, though that is something I am still actively exploring. I tend to only create when I have an idea, and not for the sake of creating, so there are many gaps between my work, especially when I'm very busy during university mid terms or finals.

I draw and paint many different subjects, I create personal art, gifts for friends and family, character concepts for any of my written work, and fan-art from video games. I've dabbled in pixel art, digital painting, and digital art, I just create whatever feels right for a piece.

ABOUT MY WRITING
If you're interested in reading my written work, my most recent short story "Lonesome is this Creature" was published in Mulberry Literary's VIII issue '(in)dehiscent.' I have some other shorter projects posted on Substack.

I love writing intense and heartfelt dialogue and crafting strong characters/settings. Crafting plots with pieces for readers to solve the mysteries themselves is something I can never get enough of. That *click* when someone finally understands where all the threads were leading to will never get old.

I'm currently attending University for a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature with a Minor in Professional Writing so I can become a developmental editor and proofreader while working on my novels on the side.
